Vietnamese currency has many different denominations, and each banknote features images of famous landmarks in the country. Here is some information about the denominations of Vietnamese currency and the famous landmarks printed on them:


1. 500,000 VND banknote

The 500,000 VND  was issued in 2003 with polymer material, this is also the largest denomination banknote in circulation.

2. 200,000 VND banknote

The 200,000 VND  was issued in 2006 with polymer material, common color: brownish red

3. 100,000 VND banknote

The 100,000 VND  was issued in 2004 with polymer material, common color: dark green

4. 50,000 VND banknote

The 50,000 VND  was issued in 2003 with polymer material, common color: red and purplish brown

The 20,000 VND  was issued in 2006 with polymer material, common color: dark blue

6. 10,000 VND banknote

The 10,000 VND  was issued in 2006 with polymer material, common color: dark brown on a greenish yellow background.

  • Landscape: White Tiger Oil Field (Bach Ho Oil Field)  is located 145 km from Vung Tau, with an estimated reserve of 300 million tons’ oil.


7. 5,000 VND banknote

The 5,000 VND  was issued in 1993 with Cotton paper material, common color: dark blue

  • Front: Portrait of President Ho Chi Minh
  • Landscape: Tri An Hydropower Plant, Dong Nai Province - Google Place/Map

8. 2,000 VND banknote

The 2,000 VND  was issued in 1989 with Cotton paper material, common color: dark brown

9. 1,000 VND banknote

The 1,000 VND  was issued in 1989 with Cotton paper material

The above denominations are still widely used today (2024). Some small denomination banknotes 200 vnd, 100 vnd, coin no longer in use
