Painter Doan Nguyen's full name is Doan Van Nguyen. He was born in 1981 in Nam Dinh. When he was young, he studied at the Ho Chi Minh City University of Fine Arts, but because his family was poor and could not afford tuition, he had to drop out and copy paintings to earn money to make ends meet.
People call Doan Nguyen a "Mad" painter because of the videos of him writhing in pain while painting and drinking alcohol that were posted on social media.
Every time he painted, painter Doan Nguyen would get very drunk to paint each brushstroke. Sometimes, while drunk, he drank a whole bottle of paint and had to be hospitalized.
